Frequently Asked Questions

A Few Things Worth Knowing.

Getting started, finding opportunities, and making yourself at home on ActNet.

Who is ActNet for?

Anyone interested in actuarial work: students exploring the profession, analysts starting their careers, people moving between practice areas, and experienced actuaries who want to share knowledge or find their next opportunity.

Where should I start?

Use Companies & Teams to learn about employers and roles, Jobs to explore opportunities, Community for career and workplace discussions, and Study for exam preparation. You can browse public content before creating an account.

Does ActNet cover every Canadian insurer?

We focus on Canada first, with a growing directory of actuarial employers. Coverage and detail vary, and we do not claim a complete picture of every insurer or team. If an employer or team is missing, suggest an addition through Contact Us.

Are company profiles and team maps official?

ActNet is independent. Company profiles are community-maintained and team maps use cited public professional information. They group people by team and career level; they do not establish reporting relationships. Check the supporting sources and verification labels on each entry.

Where do job listings come from?

Listings are collected from employer career sites and supported recruitment systems. Each job links to its original source and shows available source dates. Employers can update or close a role between checks, so confirm the details on the employer’s site.

Can I apply for a job through ActNet?

Apply using the link to the employer’s careers site on the job page. ActNet does not collect your résumé or application documents. You can save jobs to your private shortlist when signed in.

What are ActNet classifications?

Practice area and career level are ActNet categories designed to help you browse. They may differ from the employer’s wording. A specific team affiliation is shown only when a public source supports it.

What can I share in Community and Study?

Ask specific questions, explain your approach, and share original examples or professional insights. Protect employer and client confidentiality. Do not post leaked exam questions, confidential interview materials, or content you do not have permission to share.

Is ActNet affiliated with SOA, CAS, or an employer?

No. ActNet is an independent community, not an official exam provider, recruiter, or employer representative. Use the relevant professional body’s official materials to confirm exam requirements and syllabus changes.

What does ActNet Official mean on a post?

These are editorial sharing posts from ActNet. They explain actuarial work or study concepts using sources and illustrative examples. They are not fabricated member experiences or evidence of an active discussion. Members can add their own replies.

What is public on my account?

Your chosen username, avatar, and contributions are public. Profile settings let you control whether practice and experience context appears with your posts. Your email, saved jobs, saved discussions, and private requests are not displayed as public community content.

Can I upload a profile photo?

For now, choose from our built-in avatar icons. Image uploads are not available. You can change your avatar and username under My account → Profile.

How do I change my password or manage sessions?

Open My account and choose Change password or Account settings. The Security and Sessions sections provide the available account controls. If you cannot sign in, use the password recovery link on the sign-in page.

How can I correct information or report a privacy concern?

Use Report / correct beside the relevant content, or send a private request through Contact Us. Include a public source when appropriate. Never attach internal documents or private contact details. You can follow up in Request Center.
