CAS study notes: Build a method-selection table
For applied actuarial exams, knowing when a method is suitable complements knowing its formula. Organise notes by data basis, assumptions, strengths, limitations and diagnostic evidence. This helps make explanations specific.
Worked example or practice scenario
For reserving, compare development and BF using columns for maturity, expected-loss input and response to emerging experience. For pricing, separate overall rate-level analysis from classification and individual-risk work. A method’s name alone does not determine the right application.
Try this next
Add one original counterexample to each row: a changed process, sparse data or incompatible coverage basis. Use current assigned readings to check scope and definitions. Avoid a table that only lists unqualified advantages.
